While I was away on vacation at PLACE, I couldn’t get enough of this amazing fruit, PAPAYA!
It was pretty much my breakfast and snack on a daily basis. I enjoyed this superfood so much, I wanted to share it with all of you here as an FYI. Here are some fun facts about this tropical fruit.
Some consider the papaya to be a superfood. It is said to improve digestion, prevent cancer, fight heart disease, offer skin protection, act as an anti-inflammatory, AND is good for the eyes. All of this in a sweet, buttery melon-like package…how could you go wrong! No wonder it was referred to as “the fruit of the angels” by Christopher Columbus.
Papaya can be found year round, but it’s peak seasons are the early summer and fall. So, get yourself to the market and pick up this awesome fruit! As you peruse the papayas, be sure to select one that is mostly yellow with a little green; and let it fully ripen to a bright yellow at home to ensure its deliciousness.
Don't forget! Whenever you eat any fruit, be sure to do so on an empty stomach to allow your body to fully process all of the nutrients, fiber and simple sugars your fruit has to offer
If you choose to eat your fruit too close to a meal, it can combine with the other foods you ingest. This can lead to your favorite fruit to ferment and rot in your gut. So remember that ICK factor when choosing a time to have your papaya.
I think the best time to consume your papaya is at the start of your day to kick off your metabolism and let those enzymes in the papaya do their thing. Oh and don't forget to eat the seeds…..they’re good for you too!!
Let me know how you like your papaya in the comments below.
